Reading Gihan Sachintha's රස්තියාදුකාරයා / Rasthiyadhukaraya / Bohemian (2017) unveiled me to a modern reading experience.
This experience reminded me of the book "Budunge Rasthiyaduwa" / බුදුන්ගේ රස්තියාදුව / Buddha's vagabondage (2017) and its barrier to the readers to have concepts and magic of the book materialized in their mind. This book by Gihan Sachintha ( රස්තියාදුකාරයා / Rasthiyadhukaraya / Bohemian [2017] ) has been able to avoid that mistake.
"Lilith saha lili mal" : (ලිලිත් සහ ලිලී මල්) : Lilith and lilies is Gihan Sachintha's newest book is a short story collection. This short story collection is also a modern writing. (Actually a "post-modern" book.)
After Martin Wickramasinghe's "යුගාන්තය / Yuganthaya / End of an Era" (1949) novel, cultural lives of the residents of Colombo are explored by Gihan Sachintha's two short story collections, "Rasthiyadukaraya / රස්තියාදුකාරයා / Bohemian" (2017) and "Lilith saha lili mal" : (ලිලිත් සහ ලිලී මල්) : Lilith and lilies (2021) like polishing a diamond.
The short story collection "Lilith saha lili mal" : (ලිලිත් සහ ලිලී මල්) : Lilith and lilies (2021) have a very complex language flow.
The writer breaks the fourth wall (Art of drama) between the reader and author by delicate structural language use and also by exposing subcultural and countercultural facts in his book. Due to this unending flow of links "the death of the author" does not occur. (Roland Barthes [1915-1980])
Translating "Gold Leaf" cigarettes into sinhala by the brand name is an outstanding technique by the author.
Pathum Punchihewa's post script gives a guidance to the readers.
