Colpetty People : Ashok Ferrey - A glimpse of the Colombo people

 

Suresh Mudannayake or Ashok Ferrey is a famous figure in the Colombo Sri Lankan English literary scene. He has written many short stories as well as novels based on an interesting writing style unique to him.

He was able to create a discourse in the Colombo literary scene on various topics that he had discussed in his novels and short stories on many platforms. (Digital and actual book reading events.)

Many of his short stories in the book "Colpetty People" reflects the psyche of the "Upper middle class and high class" people who live in Colombo Sri Lanka.

With a nostalgic writing style that collects memories and experiences of the writer himself, the book becomes a stylish book with colorful events and situations.

For me as an amateur reader though his writing style was unique was hard to understand. 

But I enjoyed what the writer trying to say to the readers, that what is it to be Sri Lankan.

The second wave of the covid-19 / corona pandemic started in 2020 October, the first week.

I read this book in September 2020.

I'm writing this review in January 2021. During the year 2021, the pandemic became out of control and created a crisis in the country.

But this book allows the reader to enjoy and also gain some knowledge on how the current government contained the "covid-19/corona" virus in the months of March to May 2020. This is a self boast by a member of the Sri Lanka People's Party, but a good one at that.

කොවිඩ් - 19 / කොරෝනා වෛරසයේ දෙවන රැල්ල ආරම්භ වන්නේ 2020 ඔක්තෝබර් මස පළමුවන සතියේය.

මා මෙම "කොරෝනා ඩයරිය" නම් ග්‍රන්ථය කියවන්නේ 2020 සැප්තැම්බර් මාසයේදීය.

මෙම විචාරය ලියවෙන්නේ 2021 ජනවාරි මාසයේය. 2021 වන විට සම්පුර්ණ පාලනයෙන් තොරවූ කොරෝනා / කොවිඩ් -19 වෛරසයේ පැතිරීම ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ මහත් අර්බුධයක් ඇති කළේය.

නමුත් මාර්තු සිට මැයි 2020 දක්වා හොඳින් පාලනය වූ කොරෝනා / කොවිඩ් -19 වෛරසය සහ එම සාර්ථකත්වය පිළිබඳව රාජ්‍යය අංශයේ (ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොදුජන පෙරමුණේ) දේශපාලකයකු ලෙස ලියවෙන ස්වයං වර්ණනයක් වන මෙම කෘතිය තරමක් විනෝදයෙන් මෙන්ම යමක් දැනුමටද එක් කරන ලේඛණයකි.

This book trilogy was published from 2017, 2018, to 2020 by "Sanghinda Publishers" was ended with the final book (#3 Love) and other two books (#1 Sex and #2 Guilt) being published in a new format in the year 2020.

Since I bought the books in the order they were published, I have less awareness about the new format which was published in 2020. I read this trilogy in 2020 during the Covid-19 / Corona second wave in the month of October.

An erotic novel trilogy with a theme that is strictly suitable to adults, these three books sheds light on the complex sexual lifestyles of Sri Lankans as well as the global human beings of the modern world.

These three books take the readers to their youth where they watched hardcore pornography and films which are made strictly for adults secretly from the world around them, gives the readers an awareness that this is a dark fantasy and a dream that has become a reality.

The novel trilogy attempts to capture the lifestyle of the people who live in Colombo, through describing famous locations, famous local and foreign franchises, brand names, the beauty of famous locations, the beauty of the environment, famous social incidents, and explanations about human characteristics.

The novel trilogy would have been banned in Sri Lanka for its content. But somehow the author and the publisher managed to get their dark fantasy and dream a reality.

The subcultural and countercultural themes reflected in the books are used creatively on the cover of the book which is an innovative step in publishing.

This series of erotic novels are a reflection of the dark and hidden realities of the world.

අතිශයින්ම වැඩිහිටියන්ට පමණක් සුදුසු කාම කතා රැල්ලේ එරෝටික නවකතා තුනක් වන මෙම කෘති හරහා ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ මෙන්ම ගෝලීය සමාජයේ පවත්නා සංකීර්ණ ලිංගික ජීවිතය දෙසට ආලෝක ධාරාවක් එල්ල කිරීමට සමත් වේ.

කියවන්නන් තරුණ සමයේදී රහසිගතව නැරඹු අතිශයින්ම වැඩිහිටියන්ට සුදුසු චිත්‍රපට සහ වීඩියෝ දර්ශණ සිහිකරවන මෙම නවකතා පෙළ අපගේ අඳුරු මානසික ලිංගික සිහින ෆැන්ටසියන් යථාර්තයක් ලෙස නිරුපණය කරයි.
