Reading Kahlil Gibran in Sinhala - 01 : The Prophet (1923) : Translation (1995)
This is one of the best language manipulations to stimulate the reader into a fantasy and spiritual analysis of life and many aspects of it.
Khalil Jibran considered one of the greatest writers and poets in the world, wrote "The Prophet" in 1923.
This was translated to sinhala by one of the greatest Sri Lankan translators, Chintha Lakshmi Sinha Arachchi. Though she was away from the Sri Lankan spot light of literature, her books are considered to be the greatest sinhala translations ever made.
Indian novels were never been so better when she executed her work. It's because in her literature translations she did not translate them from english, but from hindi or the relevant language the book was written.
"The Prophet" sinhala translation is a revelation.
The writer is more of a religious poet than a romantic. He creates his own spiritual vision to the world through expressive language used against the nature, and no doubt it has become one of the greatest sinhala translations in my perception depicting a magical and realistic prose passages about life and humanity.
