This book by "Premachandra Magammana", who is not a famous figure from Sinhala Literature, on art and aesthetics, and its role in the society does not provide a different perspective than other literary review books. But there are problems in the book.
The writer believes the sole purpose of art is to enjoy the relevant aesthetic aspects provided, but not to go into further aspects of political, cultural, legal, technological, economic or environmental factors in the external world.
He believes if this aspects gets involved in the creation, it will be deviated from the fundamentals of art from it's basic and deep concepts and will lead to unnecessary factors and also to lower the quality of aesthetic value of the creation.
As a reader I managed to explore into the basics of aesthetics the writer has brought up in the book which I find are harsh criticisms which are somewhat baseless. Because the justifications he had brought up in the book are not enough or somewhat less backed with good evidence to justify his criticism.
Anyway the book provides a basic analysis to study of the art and aesthetics with new perception to Sri Lankan readers where it allows new perception to study "art and aesthetics".
