A rejunivation for the Sri Lankan village folk tales to the modern local readers

Keerthi Welisarage's යෞවන දේශයේ කතා (Yauwana Deshaye Katha) is a modern retelling of the Sri Lankan village folk tales to the modern local readers. This was written in 2015.

Keerthi Welisarge is famous for his "Swarna Pusthaka award" winning novel "Kaala Sarpa (2013)". [The best Sri Lankan novel of the year]

This book contains usual Sri Lankan traditional folk tales.

These folk tales come from generation to generation orally for half a century in the city of Kotte, Western province close to the capital of Sri Jayawardanapura, Sri Lanka.

These folk tales were reminded to the author by his elder brother Hemapala Perera Welisarage.

As a fan of Sri Lankan literature the analysis on Sri Lankan village folk stories is outstanding, for it gives a deep analysis on the origins of folk tales and the socio-cultural impacts of them.
